Passive Wireless Sensor Platform

MagTag is a passive, wireless sensor technology designed for environments where traditional RFID, Bluetooth, and battery-powered sensors are limited by interference, cost, or maintenance constraints. Developed in collaboration with Sandia National Laboratories and Los Alamos National Laboratory, MagTag uses magnetic resonance principles to provide reliable asset identification and environmental sensing in the most demanding conditions.

Secure, Scalable Sensing for Complex Environments

How it works

MagTag operates without batteries or active electronics. Instead, it uses arrays of micromachined magnetostrictive resonators that vibrate at unique, precisely tuned frequencies when exposed to an externally applied magnetic field. These resonant signals are wirelessly detected by a nearby reader system, enabling:

  • Unique Identification

Each tag emits a complex frequency signature that is extremely difficult to counterfeit or replicate.

  • Environmental Sensing

Changes in frequency and amplitude can indicate variations in environmental conditions such as gas presence (e.g., hydrogen, H₂S), temperature, or pressure.

  • Unique Identification

Each tag emits a complex frequency signature that is extremely difficult to counterfeit or replicate.
